David Boucher is an inspiration. He will tell you that himself. But perhaps I should explain...
I first met David Boucher in 2014 when he created a series of stunning Macassar and walnut presentation boxes for Making the Cut: The Power and Passion behind a Tailoring Dynasty, my book on JH Cutler, the world-famous bespoke tailoring house in Sydney, Australia.
David Boucher was hosting a Christmas function for his customers at a retail store in central Sydney that was stocking a small, but expertly curated sample of his superlative furniture and accessories. As I walked around the pieces I found myself compulsively touching the highly polished wood and metal and shagreen, marvelling at the expertly made furniture. As I did so, I believe I came to know something of the man who stood behind this craft. But, at this stage, I had yet to meet him.
When David Boucher addressed the audience I learned a lot more. He is a superb speaker and the story of his life and the struggles he and his lovely wife, Margaret, have faced over many years in order to produce world-class products inspired me in my own desire to be the best at what I do.
David created Boucher & Co in 1977 after having grown up on the land in Toowoomba, Queensland, and then spending time manufacturing and selling 'everyday' furniture, mixed in with some hard living. Deep within, he knew there were greater things to attain.
He set his sights on becoming a master craftsman who designed and created the best furniture in the world. And he has done just that.
David Boucher has elevated the art of fine craftsmanship to a rarely seen level, creating luxurious items from precious materials and rare timbers that perfectly reflect his clientele’s lifestyles.
Over four decades, Boucher & Co has forged a global reputation for design excellence, crafting unique pieces for connoisseurs across the globe. Patrons include royalty, sultans, heads of state, captains of industry and entertainers from all over the world. This has brought Boucher & Co to the notice of luxury marques like Rolls-Royce and Vacheron Constantin.
Today, Boucher & Co furniture features in the world's most magnificent residences and new commissions keep arriving from those who demand the best. David Boucher will continue to make the finest furniture available and he will continue to tell people about it. If you get the chance to listen, do so. You won't be the same again.
